Weekend Trip to Lake Wenatchee Part Two

After we went snowshoeing, which if you want to read about is available at the Lake Wenatchee Part One blog post, we spent a few hours down in Leavenworth, Washington. My favorite thing to do there is to get a Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory Caramel Apple. I got it and some other candies, and we probably stopped in every single store downtown. There was an outdoors store that sold some Woolrich pants one of my friends got, an art gallery that sold metal wall art of the mountains and trees, a bookstore, and so so much more. Leavenworth is a pretty little town but it's my favorite when there's snow on the ground. We happened to go the same weekend as their ice festival so there were lots of other people in town watching the ice carvings and various contests and races.

After our time in Leavenworth we went back to the cabin and cooked burgers. We got up early the next morning to head home and made a couple of stops along the way. We had second breakfast at the Cascadia Inn in Skykomish and then made another stop on the side of Stevens Pass Highway to look at some massive icicles hanging from the cliff on the other side of the river.

My L.L. Bean Thinsulate boots worked for this little stop fairly well. I fell through the ice once or twice but the water below was only a few inches deep so my feet stayed dry. I am planning on getting waterproof hiking boots in the next week or two though, when the coupons from REI come out with the REI member dividend.

Do you have any favorite places to stop or explore in the Cascade Mountains near Steven's Pass?

Some friends of ours have a cabin up on Lake Wenatchee and we had the opportunity to stay there one weekend in January.

On our way up we stopped for dinner at Benjarong Thai Restaurant in Monroe, WA. It was so yummy! If you like Thai, you should check it out.

We got up to the cabin late Friday, started a fire to keep us warm, and just chilled. After waking up early the next morning, we got ready and went snowshoeing. I definitely need better gloves for next time I'm out in such cold weather. My fingers were freezing the whole time. The rest of me was fine though at least.

FYI This was the adventure that I realized I needed a Merino Wool Buff and not an annoying scarf with ends that wouldn't stay out of my way. Here's another Merino Wool Buff option. I got the first because it's on sale.

Before and after snowshoeing we drove around a little bit too and explored the area around the lake. I'd love to have a small cabin up in the mountains for adventures like this. It's so beautiful.

After snowshoeing and driving around we went back to the cabin to warm up and change to go to Leavenworth which I'll talk more about in Part Two of this blog post.

Where's your favorite place in the Cascade Mountains?

Faux Fur Wrap

It was a winter wonderland yesterday when it snowed. Okay, maybe not a winter wonderland if you live somewhere where it snows often, but for us it was magical. I can't wait to see more snow this year or to go up to the mountains! Northwest Pearls: Faux Fur Wrap

I'm in need of some new snow boots, my leather boots should not be worn in the snow, but I've yet to find any snow boots I want. Do you have any snow boot recommendations?

Christmas Classics

Here's another outfit for the holidays. I am loving this skirt and sweater. I probably should have restrained myself from buying them, but they're so pretty! It's perfect for some of the Christmas parties this season! There are a few rows of beading along the neckline, which pair well with pearls. I wore my favorite pearl earrings from National Geographic. Next time I think I'll add a pearl bracelet to the outfit.

On the Christmas Tree Hunt

Northwest Pearls: Christmas Tree Hunt This weekend we went out to get a Christmas tree. It's a tradition for us to go to a tree farm, pick one out, and cut it down. Only once in my memory have we bought one from a lot; and that was because we were on vacation before Christmas and didn't want to get one before we left, which meant we bought it on December 22nd or so.

As you'd expect, this year it was raining, but the bright side of the rain meant that we were the only ones at the tree farm. I know that I mock people who use umbrellas, but I went without it for the first few minutes of picking a tree before I gave in and got it out of our car. It did make standing out in the rain slightly more pleasant.

I'm excited to decorate our tree; are you getting a Christmas tree this year? Or if not, do you have any holiday traditions?

Tahari Coat

O ne of my favorite coats is one I bought from Nordstrom a couple of years ago. I bought it while in Eastern Washington where it rains less and wore it around a lot during the fall, winter and spring. Here in Western Washington though I haven't worn it as much. Here I'll usually just save it for special occasions. Northwest Pearls: Tahari Coat

I love the double breasted princess coat style and wish it worked a little better with the rain. Sadly, you need something a little more waterproof and with a hood for around here.

What coat style do you like?

Double Breasted Blue Coat

Northwest Pearls: Double Breasted Blue Coat Before we went to Europe a few years ago, my mom and I went out looking for new coats for the trip. I found this nice one from Old Navy. I got it on sale, and I figured it anything happened to it, then I didn't waste my money. But the coat lasted and has held up for years. It's a little long, I could have done with a petite size I think, or some hemming, but it's been a pretty good coat, especially for the price I paid. It's decently warm, especially when you layer properly. And I love how bright it is for gloomy days here in the PNW. But I wasn't able to find any similar coats on Old Navy's website right now.

Do you have a clothing item that's held up well?

Holiday OOTD

I bought this velvet skirt from Kohl's a couple of weeks ago. I love it, but it's not a piece I could wear for just anything. I'm planning on wearing it to a few holiday parties this year and maybe for Christmas. The skirt is from the LC Lauren Conrad Runway Collection. It also comes in blue and black.

I paired it was a loose black top and sweater, but it also works with a tighter top, and I'd like to see how it goes with a crop top like this Topshop top or this Topshop top. The skirt waist is high, and if the crop top is long enough, I think I might like it.

And, the best part about the skirt: it has pockets! Why can't they make every fuller skirt have pockets? Seriously, how hard could that be?
