Stuffed Cabbage

My friend's mother is from Germany, but has lived in the US for 20+ years, and I asked her what she had done for Christmas. She told me and said that she had made stuffed cabbage, a traditional Romanian/German Christmas dish. I asked if she had any leftovers and she promptly heated some up for me on a plate. It was pretty good.

It was sauerkraut (I spelled that right the first time), hamburger meat, rice, paprika, French garlic, and some other ingredients that I'm forgetting. Here's a picture of a similar dish (though not exactly what I had and mine didn't quite look like this because I ate a few-day-old leftovers.)

She explained that it was hard to get the cabbage on the head in the US so the dish wasn't exactly like it was in Germany, but that it was similar and pretty close. I'd never even had sauerkraut so I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was good. I'm glad I tried it.
