I was inspired by this decorated graduation cap and wanted to do something similar. Pinterest and Google both helped me find a plethora of ideas for my own graduation cap and I worked at designing my monogram in Adobe InDesign. I had a few designs I liked and I was going to stencil one of them onto my cap. However, my roommate is an artist and she offered to paint it on free-hand. I accepted and (at her suggestion) got:
- White acrylic paint
- Elmer's Glue
- Fine gold glitter
My roommate sketched out a couple of designs on paper, got my input, and then got to work. She used a pencil to mark up the cap to have a guide, and then used the paint and paintbrush to do the design. Then, after the paint dried, she painted on Elmer's Glue over the white paint and dumped glitter over that. We dumped the excess glitter onto a piece of paper so we could reuse what was left over.
We were both extremely happy with the result. There was glitter all over our room, and a trail of glitter from our room to the stairs, but hey, it's glitter. The graduation cap is black, and she added on the " '14" to commemorate the year. I love it!
What are you doing for your graduation cap?
